Testimonials

I have been having online singing lessons for 2 years. I was someone who said “I can’t sing.” I wasn’t just nervous of singing in front of someone – I just would not do it. In addition to a marvellous talent for singing and teaching, Lucy has understood that by using the <mute> function during an online singing lesson her students can practice pieces and actually experience what it is like to sing without any fear or shame clouding their minds.

Lucy can watch a person singing on mute and actually asses whether they are singing with relaxation and confidence or having a melt down. She also encourages students to sing along with her on mute and record their part so that she can listen and give guidance.

Being in ones own home gives a sense of security whilst singing and also allows the lessons to fit in to a busy schedule. Lucy is an expert at building a relationship with her students online and makes her lessons very personal to that individual. If the student has a particular song they wish to sing it is incredibly easy to download copyright music scores and share them with her on emails. Likewise Lucy has a treasure trove of music which she will send out to students for no extra cost.

And the icing on the cake is that she will also send recordings of songs that have been practiced in the lesson which allows for home singing in between classes.

A thoroughly immersive experience which uses technology to its full and builds confidence in people, like me, who are very nervous of exposing their singing to others. Cannot recommend it too highly.

Louise Webb

At the age of 12, I was one of the few members of my year-group at school who failed the audition for the year-group choir. It was official: I couldn’t sing. In fact, I liked singing, and would sing to my children when they were young, but the possibility of ever singing with other people seemed entirely out of my reach. In the autumn of 2021, I was encouraged to join a local choir for the Christmas concert. I enjoyed it very much but I felt I needed to learn a lot more about singing. Before rehearsals started for this year’s Christmas concert, I asked one of my fellow-singers, a musicologist, for advice; he said that I needed a teacher, and recommended Lucy Legg, as particularly expert in working with people with a similar history to mine. I am very glad he did. It has been a joy to work with her; her online lessons have all the immediacy of a good in-person one. She brings to the lessons a deep understanding of all the physical processes involved in singing, and helps you to develop and tune your voice-instrument. She sets achievable targets. She is kind, patient, humorous, and encouraging; at the same time, when something is wrong, she will not gloss over it, but help you to correct it. She thinks of approaches that will work for the individual pupil, no matter how little they have in the way of prior knowledge. Above all, she makes you believe in yourself as a singer. As someone whose career has been in education, I think I have a fair idea of what good teaching is. Lucy is a great teacher.
